Hey, everyone! It’s me, your attention-loving and tail-wagging JournoDog!
I’m taking a spot at the White House podium, to not only announce a scoop of newsy kibble but also send out a paw-some plea to those who need to hear it.
First, you may have heard the big news that the First Family of Bidens have welcomed a new First Feline into the White House, joining their humans and two doggos already living there.
Yup, the Bidens made the news recently by welcoming Willow, a 2-year-old gray shorthair tabby. The cat’s named after First Lady Jill Biden’s hometown of Willow Grove, PA.

“Willow made quite an impression on Dr. Biden in 2020 when she jumped up on the stage and interrupted her remarks during a campaign stop,” the first lady’s spokesman said in a news release. “Seeing their immediate bond, the owner of the farm knew that Willow belonged with Dr. Biden.”
This certainly isn’t the first cat to live in the White House, but the little furry Willow is the first cat to live in the esteemed palace of house since President George W. Bush had a black cat named India.
You may recall from past JournoDog Chronicles that in late 2021, the Bidens welcomed Commander, a 4-month-old purebred German shepherd puppy, into their home. This followed the sad news that summer of their eldest dog, Champ, passed away. Their other dog Major — adopted from an animal shelter in 2018 — became the first-ever rescue dog in the White House.
There are more photos on Jill Biden’s Twitter page, too.
Now, I’ma a young boy who comes from Kentucky and I hasn’t had much experience in this world quite yet. I’m a JournoDog in training still. But I know that even as challenging as it may be sometimes, dogs must get along with each other. Occasionally we must be nice to cats, too.
So while I don’t make a habit out of saying good things about cats, and I’d probably try to capture a cat if one appeared in my new fur-ever home, I recognize that we’re all part of the same Pet Community. As such, I hope my fellow furry news readers and people pals alike will take note to celebrate this recent news of Willow’s arrival at the White House.
No matter if one is a D or an R, or has an I after their name, maybe pets can make a difference and bridge the divide between the people who only seem to argue all the time about politics, health, money and everything else.
Take note, humans: If dogs and cats can get along and share good vibes, so you can.
We could all really use a little more bipartisanship in people, just like there is within the paw-some pet community. Remember, we’re all on this planet together and sometimes you need to get along and work together for the greater good. Whether you choose to listen to one podcast on Spotify or another… or you’d rather ban the streaming music platform for the sake of accurate information that isn’t just a pile of poop stinking up the mind.
Whatever. Just be nice for a change. And try sniffing a but or two and sending a lick or tail-wag of happiness, instead of yelling or biting at each other or staging a coup.
Until next time (in a new year!), or whenever the news beckons like a barking dog you can’t help but pay attention to, #JournoDog out.
As always, remember: Love your dogs. Cats, too. Support local journalism. Believe in facts and trust credible sources. Get along with other people and pets. And try to smile and find a little happiness for your heart every day.
