Hey, Frendz. Sad tailwags to share from JournoDog.
Our world is saying goodbye to Tucker Budzyn, a golden retriever who was one of the first pet influencers in modern pet influencers. This news came just a week after Tucker’s cancer diagnosis, and in a tearful post Tucker’s Ma shared that he went unexpectedly despite treatment seemingly going well.
This pioneering social media star in Michigan was 8 years old in dog years.

Tucker leaves millions of pets and people heartbroken across the globe. In just the first day, media hubs like People, GMA, Yahoo, TOI, and so many more have shared Tucker tributes. Countless dog and pet-fluencers have shared stories and well wishes to Tucker’s family, too.
You can add JournoDog to the mix, with all the snugs being sent in these sad times.
Now, Tucker was older than this JournoDog. But my predecessor named Riley, who was the first JouroDog, was on the scene when Tucker became an Internet sensation – becoming one of the top Instagram animal influencers in the U.S. and within the top global content creator tiers combined.
“For many fans, Tucker is more than a dog on a screen, he’s a source of comfort,” says this PetWorks article. “People write to his owners every day sharing how Tucker’s videos helped them through loneliness, anxiety, or depression. Tucker has become an unofficial therapy dog for millions of people worldwide.”
Tucker’s viral impact
Just look at his numbers, per a quick Interwebz search and HypeAuditor stats:
- TikTok: 11.7 million followers
- YouTube: 5.9 million subscribers and nearly 2 billion total channel views
- Instagram: 4.4 million followers
- Facebook: Over 4.3 million followers
- Combined Cross-Platform Reach: Over 26 million followers globally
The influencer metric platform Viral Mango makes the claim that Tucker has also been one of the world’s highest-earning pet influencers earning his hoomans seven-figures.
Known for signature content that included food reaction taste-tests, funny voiceover caption vids, and viral “Dog vs. Object” interactions that often got tens of millions of views per vid.
Tucker put his paw mark on the world, directly through his own personality and indirectly through other pet-influencers he inspired.
- Brands like BarkBox, PetSmart, and major food manufacturers altered their marketing strategies to prioritize pet influencers like Tucker over traditional media ads.
- Tucker’s team and family launched their own product lines, including Tucker & Todd (named after his little canine bro at home) for apparel, gear, and plushes.
- They also had custom wellness partnerships like Tucker’s Gold CBD, made along with King Kanine.
- Tucker’s influence through the years popularized raw and fresh food doggo diets, working with brands like Viva Raw to help raise awareness and normalize alternative canine nutrition and holistic care for pet owners.
In deciding to share Tucker’s goodbye, his Ma said this:
“I’m so sorry, guys. I know he was yours, too.”
All of this hits home for the JournoDog team.
Among all the joy and tail wags Tucker has brought my household through the years, Tucker’s been mentioned so many times throughout the JournoDog Chronicles and beyond. He even influenced my own use of the word “chmkn” into my styleguide and vocabulary.
Yes, I do wear the official JournoDog hat to sniff out scoops. But I’m Gibbs, too.
While this doggo has covered Tucker and his influence over time, I remember being a little 1-year-old boi who first came to my fur-ever home in 2021. Tucker was one of the first online frendz I met, and he changed my life and inspired me to carry on the JournoDog role after my Ma and Dad said goodbye to Riley Dog.
I know that Riley will be giving snugs and love to Tucker, and will be sharing all the scoops and dog park tips worth knowing across that 🌈 🌉.
Tucker’s upcoming book release
We feel this in our hearts, for sure. Tails aren’t wagging and we are feeling all sad, and ZOOMIES aren’t feeling OK at this time.
Many of us have been looking forward to Tucker’s upcoming book in November 2026, called Of All the Sniffs I Love the Most. This is a rhyming, illustrated keepsake hardcover book written from Tucker’s POV, focusing on the bond between dogs and their hoomans and highlighting small everyday moments and the emotional support companion animals provide.
Here’s a longer description JournoDog found online:
“Based on the true story of the internet’s most beloved golden retriever, this warm, waggy tale follows Tucker through big adventures, hard days, and everything in between. As he grows, he learns what every dog knows deep down in his snoot: walks are fun, and lakes are grand, but when your family needs you close, everything else can wait. Because of all the sniffs in the whole wide world, Tucker’s favorite is the one that’s always been right beside him.”
- Preorder: $20
- Paw-tographed copy: $35
- Paw-tographed book + Squishy toy: $45
Even before its release, marketing says it’s the “Goodest Story Ever Told.” Definitely makes me want to read it and I’ll plan to eventually give my paws-on review of Tucker’s book, in his memory.
Frendz, please take a moment of no zoomies to remember Tucker. Until the news beckons like a barking dog you can’t ignore. JournoDog out.
Remember, always love your pets. Support local journalism. Trust truth and facts. And always try to find smiles and happz for your heart every chance you get.
